20230302 Rotorua

I started my day with a walk along Lake Rotorua.

In the afternoon I toured the National Kiwi Hatchery and learned some interesting facts about kiwis. They have the shortest beak of all birds (scientists measure the beak from the nostrils to the end of the bill). They have bad eyesight. The mother can lay two eggs (second egg develops after she lays the first one. The father incubates the egg. Kiwis have belly buttons.

I visited Polynesian Spa for a pre-dinner soak.

We visited Te Puia for dinner and a kapa haka – a Māori song and dance performance, followed by a sunset viewing of Pohutu Geyser.
