Our journey to Queenstown took us through more varying countryside.

The first stop was Lake Tekapo, site of the Church of the Good Shepherd, and the Sheepdog (Collie) monument.

Next we stopped at Lake Pukaki and saw Aoraki/Mt Cook – the highest point in New Zealand at 12,218’. Himalayan tahr were introduced in the early 1900s. Although “vulnerable” in India and Nepal, they are hunted here to keep their numbers down.

We drove through more beautiful countryside before arriving at our hotel. We passed a canal that carries water between two reservoirs to generate electricity. We stopped for lunch at Lake Wanaka, home of the most photographed tree in New Zealand.
